EXPRESSION OF THE LETTER AND AN INTRODUCTION TO LETTER DESIGN

Descripction:    The course is proposed as a search for the expressiveness of the letter and as an approach to lettering and logo design.   Participants will explore creative techniques. Through careful observation, analysis and experimentation, they will learn about the language of letter forms.   Objectives:   To offer up the possibility of research, study and inspiration in the creation of new modes of graphic expression and the letter, as well as its practical application in graphic design and visual communication. To promote the pleasure found in the knowledge and the beauty of the letter, whereby new doors of creative exploration will be opened, as well as the potential for job opportunities.   Theoretical and practical content:   The formal, structural and spatial aspects of signs. The expression of the letter in space. The relationship of form/function. Tools, mediums and materials. Space. Line and rhythm, “products”. The forms and anti-forms of signs. Theories of perspective. Three dimensional space, texture, colour and light.   Two practical works will be realized along with alternatives.   Methodology:   A presentation of the experience with a slideshow projection and completion of two practical works developed in the workshop.   It is recommended (although not essential) that you bring along a camera and basic drawing materials.
