Festibal with B for Bike Tandem Edition is back, because you get there quicker on your own but we go further together.
It's better together. It seems obvious but it's not always such a popular idea.
At this year's FestiBal with B for Bike we're going to get people on tandems - cyclists who don't invade the pavement you're walking on, people who promote walking to and from school, people who take their car to work every day, urbanites who think that bikes build a city and politicians who show it can be done.

The FestiBal with B for Bike is back on 13 September. We're going to celebrate it on tandems. To remind ourselves that you get there quicker on your own but you go further together.

PROGRAMME:

11am - 9pm Bike Fair Every year we try to publicise local bike and cycling-related businesses, as we offer space to a selection of shops and workshops, craftspeople and initiatives so they can display and promote their products.   11am - 9pm Bike Bank (Mobeo)
A huge range of bikes in all shapes and sizes for all kinds of people will be available thanks to the generosity of Mobeo, so that everyone at the FestiBal can enjoy a ride around Plaza Matadero.   11am - 2pm Children's Workshop “Painting and Shoes” (El Naturalista)

From the morning onwards, we'll be running a workshop open to all kids attending the FestiBal in conjunction with El Naturalista footwear brand. The theme is trainers, paying our own particular tribute to an object created for walking and which, together with the bike, is the most pleasant and sustainable way of getting around the city.    11am - 8.30pm Minidrome (Mad Wheels)
In the Mad Wheels area we'll be setting up a mini velodrome where riders will be competing head to head for 10 circuits of the track, and the fastest one wins! A real spectacle of precision and speed.
   11am - 1pm Practice sessions    1pm - 3pm Workshop    3pm - 5pm Practice sessions    5pm - 6pm Workshop    6pm - 7.30pm Heats    7.30pm - 8.30pm Competition   12 noon - 8.30pm Bike polo (Mad Wheels)
Two teams of 3 players will be squaring up to each other on a pitch with hockey goals. Tumbles, knocks, crashes and superhuman bike control.

This year, Lidia Damunt will be the first to perform on the FestiBal Escaravox stage, with a very special concert for children, parents and everyone who wants to come along. The folk singer from Murcia now living in Malmö will be singing tracks from "Gramola", her fourth solo album packed with irrepressible versions of Spanish and Latin American folk songs.   12 noon - 8.30pm Flatland (Mad Wheels)
Stunts and impossible acrobatics on level ground with just a bike and a lot of creative talent. Special guest: world champion Vicky Gómez.
     1pm - 2pm Children's workshop    2pm - 3pm  Exhibition    5pm - 5.30pm Children's workshop    5.30pm - 6pm Exhibition    6pm - 6.30pm Children's workshop    7pm - 7.30pm Exhibition      7.30pm - 8.30pm Jam   12 noon - 7.30pm BMX (Mad Wheels)
The most popular and widely practised discipline in the world. We'll have a circuit that replicates urban features and furniture so riders can put their skills to the test.
     1pm - 2pm Children's workshop    5pm - 5.30pm Children's workshop    6pm - 6.30pm Children's workshop    6.30pm - 7.30pm Jam   1pm - 2pm "Decorate your handlebars" workshop (Duduá & Peseta)
PeSeta and Duduá together again! At this workshop children and adults alike will learn how to decorate their bike handlebars with lots of different colourful materials, and then show off their handiwork at the FestiBal and for the rest of their lives around the city.   1pm - 3pm Talks and Discussions (Terrarium Intermediae)
The "CicloBía con B de Bici" project: the reasons for promoting a cycleway in Madrid   1pm - 4pm DJ (Escaravox stage) To be confirmed.   1.30pm - 2.30pm Bicycle Grandmother's Footsteps

We'll be playing the popular children's game of Grandmother's Footsteps with people of all ages... but on bikes! Players have to ride their bikes from a set point up to where "Mr Wolf" is standing with his back to them, and when he turns round, anyone caught moving is eliminated from the game. The rider who reaches "Mr Wolf" first is the winner. When Mr Wolf turns round, don't let him catch you moving!   2pm - 4pm Picnic (Olivia Te Cuida)
One of the many great things about the FestiBal is the delicious healthy food! All through the day, next to the Escaravox stage, Olivia te Cuida (the same people behind La Cantina at Matadero) will be preparing a picnic breakfast, snack and a very special midday menu with mouth-watering organic products.   3.45pm - 4.30pm Concert: Uke (Escaravox stage)
Roberto and Laura have composed some new songs and are returning to the FestiBal. They'll be coming from their Sebastian Melmoth store (Valencia) to entertain us at coffee time with their soothing, intimate numbers. 4.15pm - 5.30pm Children's workshop "Bikes and chalks" (Duduá & Peseta)
Using a simple mechanism of coloured chalks, children can use their bikes as paintbrushes and the Plaza floor surface as a huge canvas. Chalks, bikes, fresh air - let's get painting!   5pm - 7pm Slow Race

A legendary activity at the FestiBal with B for Bike, one of the most eagerly awaited and entertaining sessions. These are bike races in which the slowest is the winner. Players compete against each other in pairs until only two are left. The game is played by seeing how slowly you can ride your bike without your feet touching the ground, falling off or pedalling. The winner is the one who gets to the finish last. A lesson in keeping both your balance and your cool.   4.30pm - 6.30pm  Children's workshop "Painting and Shoes" (El Naturalista)

FestiBal afternoon sessions continue with footwear brand El Naturalista and a creative workshop on shoes as a model of sustainable mobility.   4.45pm - 5pm Concert: Las Hermanas Diego (Escaravox stage)
Coming all the way from León, we have some very special guests who barely a year ago presented the world with their first album. Kantia Diego provides vocals and chorus, with Esperanza Collado on the twelve string guitar. Together they make amazing simple songs reminiscent of Vainica Doble, Le Mans and Young Marble Giants.   6.30pm - 7pm Intervention by Taller de Casquería The big surprise in the Plaza. This group of architects, who perform unexpected interventions with elements of performance and architecture, will be converting the Plaza into an open-air party with the help of the FestiBal audience and bikes.   7pm - 8pm Concert: Deers (Escaravox stage)
These incredibly energetic young women with barely 5 songs under their belts are already princesses of Madrid garage music and have the international media at their feet. As Stephen Pastle said on Facebook, their sound is similar to Snatch, Royal Trux and Mickey & Silvia. They're addictive, brilliant and badly behaved.   8pm - 10pm DJ Paco Pintón (Escaravox stage)
Paco Pintón is a good-looking designer of clothes and delicate handmade accessories. Something else he'll be doing by hand and in a very elegant and delicate way will be his DJ set at the Festibal closing session.   8.30pm - 10pm RadRace (Mad Wheels)
The Mad Wheels area finishes with a skills race running several heats in two categories: fixed gear ("fixies") plus an open category for all other types of bike.
