Matadero Madrid and Viernes introduce a new edition of the FestiBal con B de Bici (Festibal with B for Bicycle) The contemporary art centre will host the tenth edition of a festival for the promotion of the use of bicycles and sustainable mobility in the city offering conferences, talks, competitions, games and music for all audiences in September 15 and 16.
The FestiBal con B de Bici started out in 2011 with the intention of boosting the use of bicycles in the city of Madrid. At that moment, the presence of this means of transport in the city was scarce and the FestiBal came across as an initiative to bring together neighbours, lovers of sports, artists, families young and old with the same dream and encourage more people to use a means of transport that the UN defines in it´s latest resolution -approved in April- as “sustainable, simple, affordable, reliable, clean and ecological in benefit of both the environment and our health”.
Seven years later, many more people use bicycles in Madrid, infrastructures are better, the city has public use bicycles and there are more options for sustainable mobility within the city. In it's tenth edition, the FestiBal celebrates all these improvements declaring its love for bikes through a complete and festive programme framed, as usual, within La Celeste-Semana Europea de la Movilidad (European Mobility Week La Celeste), that will take place in September 16 through 22. Among the activities at the FestiBal are the classic bikes fair of local commerce, a second hand market and competitions such as “La loca prueba absurda” (the crazy absurd ride) and the “Slow Race”. There will be shows by Flatland, Pumptrack and BMX, workshops for adults and children by Vibra-tó and Peseta. Participative actions will take place such as the game “Sillines musicales” (musical saddles) and the y la intervention “Besos & Bicis” (kisses and bicycles). On another note, the music programme will include Axolotes mexicanos, Fario, Sen Senra, Magnus Imperial Club, Cariño, Las Chillers Caribe Mix, Peinetta, Blue Moon Marquee and a long list of Djs led by Lara López, Freikets, Jesús Bombín, Paula Yei Yei or Señor Lobo, among many others.
