FILM SERIES 'AIR BRIDGE: THE CINEMA OF WARREN SONBERT'

Warren Sonbert was one of the essential figures of the American cinematic avant-garde. He burst onto the New York scene at just 18 years old, capturing the spirit of his generation in his early films with a provocative style. His work evolved into a rhapsodic, exuberant editing style that earned him the description of "cinema's supreme romantic diarist," juxtaposing the everyday and the exotic in a hypnotic visual dance. Yet Sonbert was also a passionate devotee of classic cinema, knowing how to weave a fertile dialogue between formal experimentation and narrative tradition. This retrospective establishes an explicit dialogue between the filmmaker's works and classic films by Dziga Vertov, Alfred Hitchcock, and Douglas Sirk. The sessions will be introduced by curators Francisco Algarín Navarro and Carlos Saldaña Puerto, two of Spain's foremost experts on avant-garde cinema, whose sensitivity and commitment to the film format guarantee a rigorous and passionate contextualization.
