FESTIVAL DE OTOÑO EN PRIMAVERA. Israel Galván pushes the envelope again with his genial mix of  flamenco and contemporary music.
Israel Galván has pushed the envelope with his yen for mixing  flamenco and contemporary music (...) in an improvisation that is constantly approaching genius”. JUAN ÁNGEL VELA DEL CAMPO, DIVERDI

After its acclaimed premiere this past December at the Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne (Switzerland), La Curva comes to the Festival de Otoño en primavera (Fall Festival in Spring) in a show that is apotheosis and haven for the intermingling of the advanced flamenco dance of Israel Galván, the piano somewhere between freejazz and contemporary of the Swiss composer residing in New York Sylvie Courvoisier and the cante jondo with earthy flavor of the veteran cantaora Inés Bacán, accompanied by the palmas (clapping) of the popular and intuitive Bobote. “A quartet that's anything but conventional for a show that defies classification”, in the words of journalist Juan Ángel Vela del Campo. Israel Galván himself defines like this: “La Curva was born from my familiarity with silence.  From my need to take apart the flamenco recital, where song, music and dance are intimately linked. I wanted to see each element individually, separately, and put silence on display”. With La Curva, Galván continues to redefine his flamenco vocabulary, freeing himself,  for the audience to see, of all his knowledge. There's a common texture shared by the voice- solitary and almost atonal- provided by Inés Bacán and the tonal qualities of the piano solo by Sylvie Courvoisier. There's a point of vibration that identifies the primitive voice with the cutting-edge piano. What Israel Galván pretends to do it enter alone into that tense space. “As Deleuze indicated, any space with vibrations curves, bends, twists.  Pedro G. Romero concludes, "Where Israel Galván wants to dance now is in that spatial curve”.
About the company
Israel Galván has been singled out by the media as “the most innovative flamenco artist ever”. Centering himself on pure flamenco, Galván has successfully incorporated elements from contemporary dance and experimental theatre to create shows with a high level of artistic quality, totally different from what up until now one could see in the flamenco dance world. The creator attributes his success to his continuous experimentation with new elements that he uses to highlight the essence of flamenco itself. The journalist Ángeles Fernández assures that “thanks to Galván, the future and the evolution of flamenco in Spain and abroad have been ensured”. Recipient of the Premio Nacional de Danza 2005 for Creation, Israel Galván joined the Compañía Andaluza de Danza in 1994, beginning an unstoppable career bolstered by important awards. In 1998 he presented ¡Mira! / Los zapatos rojos, his own company's first show, touted by critics as genius. Since then the company has produced La metamorfosis (2000), Galvánicas (2002), Arena (2004), La edad de oro (Premio Flamenco Hoy 2005 for Best Dance Show), Tábula rasa (Premio Flamenco Hoy 2006 for Best Dance Show), his debut as a choreographer in La francesa (2006), Solo (2007) and El final de este estado de cosas, redux (2008), which premiered in Madrid at the Festival de Otoño in 2009.
