Karake Chipén by Juana Chicharro with a playlist chosen by the participants, a concert by the unpredictable Elías e Ignacio and a Dj Set by El Coleta supporting neighbourhood pride bring Plaza Matadero to life.
Karaoke Chipén de Juana Chicharro Karaoke Chipén is based on the fundamental principles of karaoke. One of its main characteristics (hence, the use of “chipén”, a word meaning “good” or “true” in traditional Spanish) is the participants’ involvement in choosing the selection of music to be sung. The songs people would like to sing can be requested by them over the internet, broadening the set of songs that will already have been chosen by us. Once inside the karaoke venue, all of the participants will get a list of the songs selected as well as some request slips on which they’ll write their name, the song they want to perform and the artist who sings it. These slips will be placed in a container and the hosts will continually call out the people selected to perform their songs onstage. The event will end with an award given to the best singer, who will be chosen using an “applausometer”. The winner will then perform his or her song once more.
Elías e Ignacio Elías e Ignacio play songs from dodgem rides, traditional Aragonese jota music, deliberately commercial pop, folk songs that go just a bit too far and anything else that takes their fancy. They also have some of the best and most intelligent song lyrics we can remember. In short: ¡Sangría!
El Coleta If verbenas (open-air dances) are traditional folk festivities held in city neighbourhoods, then
