Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream
In addition to the many other ‘writings of the self’ featured at the festival, we, in partnership with Cineteca Madrid, will be screening Ne croyez surtout pas que je hurle (2019, released in English as Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream), directed by Frank Beauvais, one of the films that made the most impact at the 69th Berlinale. A 45-year-old man lives alone after a break-up, cut off from the world in a mountain village in Alsace. His only relief is to continually watch films from every era of cinema. A personal video-cum-diary and, at the same time, an exercise in ‘found footage’, the film consists of clips from the hundreds of films he saw while grieving: from Eastwood to Bonello and from Carpenter to Von Sternberg. A cry of despair in the form of a striking collage of images by others. Film as salvation and sentence, as a refuge and as a prison.
