Matadero Madrid
Within the framework of the events scheduled by Peru as the guest country of ARCOMadrid 2019, Matadero Madrid will be the setting for a spectacular artistic action. Artists Olinda Silvano, Silvia Ricopa and Wilma Maynas will spend several days in Matadero Madrid painting a Kené Mural. Kené art is characteristic of the Shipibo-Konibo people, an ethnic group in the Peruvian Amazon that inhabits the riverbanks and tributaries of the Ucayali River in Peru. Linked conceptually to female knowledge and energy, it consists of sequences of beautiful geometric designs, which Shipibo-Konibas women paint while singing together in a ritual of communication. The work can be seen from Thursday 28 February on the wall beside the entrance to Matadero Madrid, beside Plaza de Legazpi.
