More than fifty years have now gone by since the adventures of Juan Salvo, El Eternauta, were first published in a comic that described an alien invasion that was really a metaphor for the mechanisms of power, and which allowed the comic's creator, Héctor Oesterheld, to “foretell” the bloody repression carried out by the Argentinian military dictatorship. Sadly, Oesterheld eventually became a victim of the military reprression himself, and today he is considered one of the numerous missing persons who haunt a nation's collective memory. However, Elsa Sánchez, his partner and ally for mnay years, is still with us. She is “El Eternauta's wife”, a woman who survived the disappearance and subsequent murder of her husband Héctor - and the couple's four daughters - at the hands of the dictatorship. The film was presented at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in 2011.
In 2005 director Adán Aliaga made the feature-length documentary La casa de mi abuela [My Grandmother's House], one of the most internationally renowned Spanish documentaries in recent years, and which took home awards at several international film festivals. In 2009 Aliaga was chosen for participation in the Official Selection at SEMINCI, the Valladolid International Film Festival, for his fiction feature-length Estigmas [Stigmata], which earned him the Pilar Miró Best New Director prize. In 2010 he directed the documentary Esquivar y pegar [Dodge and Hit], which was selected for competition by the Málaga Spanish Film Festival.
