La otra bestia (the other beast) is a creature who lives inside Ana Rujas, the one that peers out at us through her eyes, with a raspy voice and a knife between its teeth, ready to stab us in the back. This other beast is her alter ego, her scarlet letter, her personal hallmark. No one can escape themselves, or the uncontrollable monster they harbour inside. The fair of catastrophes and miracles has arrived in the city. Come and see.
Multifaceted actress and creator Ana Rujas wrote this intimate laboratory which brings together theatre, poetry, fiction and autobiography. Pedro Ayose and José Martret direct the confessional play based on direct, biting texts which expands dramatic language with a gut-punching effect. The impossibility of writing, the failure of identity and the need for encounter bring the importance of Rimbaud's “I is another” back to the stage. La otra bestia is a multidisciplinary show which reminds us of the need for redemption through art and how a creative spirit can tame the steamy, monstrous beast which occasionally takes control of us.
