Recently presented at SEMINCI in Valladolid, this new documentary by Basilio Martín Patino begins with the confluence of 15M protesters in the Puerta del Sol public square, continues with the building of Acampada Sol, a sort of parallel assembly city whose structure spreads out through nearby neighborhoods and cities and to all corners of Spain. After attesting to these happenings, without mediating, without bias, the film lets its images speak for themselves and describes the end of the experience.
Director Basilio Martín Patino studied at the Madrid Escuela Oficial de Cine. His feature-length debut came in 1966 with Nueve Cartas a Berta [Nine Letters to Berta], a flagship film in New Spanish Cinema. In 1968 he represented Spain at Venice's Mostra with Del amor y otras soledades [On Love and Other Forms of Loneliness]. In 1971 he shot Canciones para después de una guerra [Songs for After a War], which was banned until after Franco's death. Until 1977 neither Queridísimos verdugos [Dearest Executioners] nor Caudillo [Commander] could be seen. They were filmed secretly between 1973 and 1974. In 1985 rehe returned to Venice with Los paraísos perdidos [Lost Paradises], and in 1987 he made Madrid. In 1991 La seducción del caos [Seduction of Chaos] premiered. In 1996 he finished the seven films that make up the series Andalucía, un siglo de fascinación [Andalusia, A Century of Fascination]. In 2002 his latest fiction project, Octavia, was released.
