Madrid Music City is an ambitious project that will include multiple activities for the purpose of celebrating Music Day in the capital city, most notably:   MAD Mat  Saturday 25 June, from 5pm.   Once again Matadero will be the main venue for the celebrations surrounding European Music Day, with a diverse and top-quality music programme. The festival had already confirmed the participation of Soleá Morente, and now it has announced that of electro-swing wizard Parov Stelar (making his debut in Madrid); Imelda May, a rocker who has been in fine form in the last few years; New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra, experts in psychedelia with funk rhythms; and Molotov Jukebox, the band led by Natalia Tena, the actress from the hit series Game of Thrones, which has a mixed sound with Balkan elements.   MMC Cine   There will also be a place for cinema in Madrid Music City, which will feature a series of films focusing on music. Screenings of the following films have been confirmed for Sala Azcona at Cineteca: 20,000 Days on Earth, the great film about Nick Cave, co-directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard; Janis, about the legendary Janis Joplin, directed by Amy J. Berg; Playing Lecuona, a fabulous documentary tribute to Ernesto Lecuona, the most international of Ibero America’s composers and pianists, which also stars Michel Camilo, Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, among others, and is set to premiere in Madrid. The premiere of the film El Profesor de Violín has also been confirmed.    MMC Kids   Music and activities designed for the whole family. At Madrid Music City we want music for everyone, which is why on the morning of 25 June we will enjoy Mad Kids, a space featuring concerts, workshops, gastronomy and tonnes of activities at Matadero Madrid. The event will be free of charge. MMC Kids is organised in collaboration with Play’N’Kids, a company committed to creating spaces where parents and children can enjoy live music together. On this occasion they bring us original games and activities with the aim of fostering creative conduct and promoting critical thinking beginning in childhood.    Although Mad Kids will be free for everyone, from today onwards the festival will offer tickets in Row 0 (Fila 0), an initiative organised in partnership with the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR). 100% of the proceeds will go towards assisting refugees. Row 0 costs €3, and it includes a tattoo designed by renowned illustrator Ricardo Cavolo, produced in collaboration with Tattoonie.   At Plaza Matadero, young children will have the opportunity to screen print their own festival t-shirts, participate in the XLKids Radio programme live, paint the most iconic album covers in history and even customise a guitar, in addition to many other games. At 12.30pm the group Music In Action will take to the Mad Kids stage to perform an entertaining electric concert that will invite kids on a journey through the world’s capitals, imagining stories and surprising them with unusual instruments.    MMC Music City Forum   This is undoubtedly one of the event’s most ambitious and distinctive offerings. A gathering devoted to reflecting on the relationship that music should have with the cities where it is developed. Renowned international presenters as well as other guests from the Spanish music industry will discuss how the sector views the future of Madrid as the Music City, its relationship with other capital cities and its role as a bridge to Latin America.   MMC ECO (Conde Duque)   Advanced electronic music will also have its own place at Madrid Music City 2016.  The various concerts, all of which are innovative and feature experimental elements, will be held at the centrally located Conde Duque.
