On 25 November, MADRIDIMAGEN celebrates its coming of age with renewed vigour, launching a festival full of new features, encompassing fictional TV and own-produced films as part of the schedule while continuing to offer its official sections: Ibero-American Debut Films, Short Films and National Audiovisual Schools.
The official venues for the 18th edition of MADRIDIMAGEN include La Cineteca, Sala Berlanga and the Film Academy, where they will be screening the official sections as well as holding colloquiums and seminars as parallel activities. In accordance with tradition, the closing gala will be held at Cine Doré, home to the National Film Archive, on Saturday 30 November.
18 years have gone by since a small group of film industry professionals founded MADRIDIMAGEN in 1996 with the clear objective of promoting, shaping and disseminating the values of audiovisual art in all its manifestations. Some of the world's most highly-regarded professionals from the world of cinema have since passed through its doors. From Oscar-winning directors of photography such as Vitorio Storaro, Freddie Young, Sven Nykvist, John Mathieson, Juan Ruiz Anchía and José Luis Alcaine through to many of the world's greatest directors, including Robert Guediguian, André Techiné, Antonio-Pedro Vasconcelos and Humberto Solás. It has also awarded prizes to the first ventures in short filmmaking by Spain's top directors of the moment such as J.A. Bayona (Mis vacaciones), Mateo Gil (Allanamiento de morada) and Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (Física II).
OFFICIAL SECTION FOR IBERO-AMERICAN DEBUT FILMS – Cinemateque and Sala Berlanga The official section will be offering an overview of the new Ibero-American cinema, including seven of the most highly-rated debut films from Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Cuba and Spain, which will be competing for the DAMA award. The chosen films are: > ASIER ETA BIOK by Amaia Merino and Aitor Merino SPAIN > BRONCE by Claudio Perrin. ARGENTINA > EL ÁRBOL MAGNETICO by Isabel Ayguarvives. CHILE > FAMILY TOUR by Liliana Torres. SPAIN > HOMBRE DE LAS GERBERAS by Davek. BRAZIL > MELAZA by Carlos Lechuga. CUBA > REGINA by Javier Avila MEXICO   OWN-PRODUCED FILMS – Cinemateque and Sala Berlanga The film scene in Spain is changing. The new possibilities that have opened up thanks to new technology, combined with the crisis that the industry is undergoing, have given rise to alternative financing channels that ultimately lead to own-production. Such films are small-scale, honest and full of new ideas, bringing a breath of fresh air to Spanish cinema. > ILUSIÓN by Daniel Castro, > GENTE EN SITIOS by Juan Cavestany, > CASTING by Jorge Naranjo, > FARADAY by Norberto Ramos del Val, > ESPERANDO SEPTIEMBRE by Tina Olivares, which will all be competing for the newly-created award for the best own-produced film.   The section ends with the Round Table: Make your own film: own-production as an alternative to collapse (in collaboration with MARTES DE DAMA, Cinemateque - Tuesday 26 November 7pm) - Speakers: Jorge Naranjo, Norberto Ramos del Val and Manuel Velasco, moderated by Roberto Lázaro.   FICTIONAL TV - Cinemateque MADRIDIMAGEN opens its doors to fictional TV, thereby acknowledging its immense audiovisual value. Special focus will be placed on Spanish television, which has become a driving force of the audiovisual industry as well as a melting pot of talent. With the scriptwriters and directors' management body, DAMA, sponsoring MADRIDIMAGEN, the event turns the spotlight on those who create fiction, who are so often overlooked, despite their being the main architects of the work. In order to showcase the authors of Spain's top TV series, MADRIDIMAGEN has created this new section, which will boast an expert panel of judges every year. They will be responsible for selecting, based on the above perspective, the three best series of the year, ultimately choosing the winner of the Madridimagen award for the Best Fictional Series, to be revealed on the final day. During the festival, one of the most representative works of each finalist will be screened, followed by a colloquium with the creators of the series along with some of the actors. There will be free admission to the colloquium and everyone is welcome to attend.
The award encompasses all TV series aired between 1 September 2012 and 30 June 2013, whether premieres or long-running shows, broadcast on any channel of a general nature and, with this in mind, the panel of judges has chosen the following shortlist of finalists:  > EL SECRETO DE PUENTE VIEJO – Created by Aurora Guerra and broadcast by Antena 3 - Wednesday 27 November 6pm at Cinemateque > GRAN HOTEL – Created by Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira and broadcast by Antena 3 - Thursday 28 November 6pm at Cinemateque > ISABEL – Created by Javier Olivares and broadcast by TVE - Friday 29 November 6pm at Cinemateque   Also, and as part of this shift towards the creation of fictional TV, this year MADRIDIMAGEN has set up a special award. It recognises the artistic contribution made by creators, actors or producers within the ambit of Spanish fictional TV. To launch this recognition, which shows all the signs of becoming a hallmark of excellence, the festival organisers are awarding the prize to an actor. Someone who has contributed artistically to fictional TV for more than 25 years. A much-loved and widely recognised actor who has also saved some of his finest performances for television: Jose Coronado. The award will be presented at the closing gala ceremony but, on Monday 25th (6pm), at Cinemateque, the general public can attend a free event at which the actor will be interviewed by journalist María Guerra.   OFFICIAL SECTION FOR IBERO-AMERICAN SHORT FILMS – Cinemateque As always, the official section for short films will be offering a collection of the year's top films. This section is made up of 24 short films and has traditionally provided a showcase for the earliest ventures made by those who are now regarded as some of the finest representatives of Spain's film industry.   OFFICIAL SECTION FOR FILM SCHOOLS - Cinemateque Spain's top film schools compete for an award that highlights their annual productions.   GOLDEN AWARD – Film Academy and Cine Doré Every year, MADRIDIMAGEN gives its Golden Award to a recognised filmmaker in acknowledgement of their professional career. On this occasion, the MadridImagen Golden Award is being given to one of Spain's greatest filmmakers of the last 40 years in terms of box-office success: Emilio Martínez-Lázaro Winner of the Golden Bear award at the 1978 Berlin Film Festival for "Las palabras de Max" (What Max Said), Madrid-born filmmaker Emilio Martínez-Lázaro is a renowned master of gentle comedies (he was part of a movement in the 1980s that became known as “new Madrid comedy”). From his earliest film, "Amo mi cama rica" (I Love My Rich Bed - 1970) through to his most recent work "Ocho apellidos vascos" (Eight Basque Surnames - 2014), his career has produced many great films, such as "Amo tu cama rica" (I Love Your Rich Bed - 1991), "Los peores años de nuestra vida" (The Worst Years of Our Lives - 1994), "Carreteras secundarias" (Secondary Roads - 1997), "El otro lado de la cama" (The Other Side of the Bed - 2002) and "Trece Rosas" (The Thirteen Roses - 2007).   Emilio Martínez-Lázaro will receive the award at the closing gala ceremony at Cine Doré on Saturday 30 November, but the homage will be completed with the screening of some of his finest works as well as a talk with the filmmaker, open to the general public, at the Film Academy.   > LOS PEORES AÑOS DE NUESTRA VIDA - Wednesday 27 November 7pm > LA VOZ DE SU AMO - Thursday 28 November 7pm - Subsequent colloquium with Emilio Martínez-Lázaro and Verónica Sánchez > LA MONTAÑA RUSA - Friday 29 November 7pm >  AMO TU CAMA RICA - Saturday 30 November 9.30pm - Cine Doré National Film Archive (Closing ceremony)

It's set to be an intense week of film and television where the audience can enjoy, FREE OF CHARGE, some of the year's top audiovisual productions and meet their creators face-to-face.
