Marranadas (Pig Tales) is the theatrical adaptation that Alfredo Arias has taken from the acclaimed novel of the same name. Alfredo Arias also takes on the challenge of playing the whole host of strange characters that appear on the stage. He says he had the desire to embody the characters, 5 of them women, which turned into a necessity in the order of “ideological compromise”, of the same kind that he had felt when he decided to take the main role of Le Frigo de Copi, Madame in The Maids by Jean Genet and the leading part in Madame de Sade by Mishima.
Marranadas tells us, with black humour, the story of a woman, Chloé, who is transformed into a pig. Her body oscillates between human and animal form. On stage he will unveil a range of characters that will come face-to-face with an atrocious reality. Finding out that, even the most pious of people can have an infinite cruelty. What Marranadas tells us is that when face with the different, society reacts with outrage and violence. Marranadas paints the picture of a society in decay, taken from the angle of fantasy.
The novel Marranadas by Marie Darrieussecq, has been translated into more than 30 languages selling more than 23,000 copies in France alone and almost a million worldwide. The director Jean-Luc Goddard, has bought the rights for cinema adaptation.
Pepa Charro, better know as “La Terremoto de Alcorcón” (Earthquake of Alcorcon), is the actor involved in the film projected on to the work. The audience will be able to discover a little known facet of this artist. The projected film also came about from interesting collaborations, such as with Agustín Villaronga who takes the role of the ruthless manager of the perfumery.
Alfredo Arias is considered as on of the greatest artists from France due to his theatrical universe loaded with inventiveness, poetry and childhood fascinations. He has received the Plaisir du Théâtre award, the Pegaso D’Oro and the Eti prize in Italy, as well as the ACE prize from Argentinian critics. He has received the Molière for best picture twice, and in 2003 was awarded the Molière d’Honneur. He has also been the director at the National Drama Centre in Aubervilliers
