Lady of the Night is a journey through darkness and the shadows of night, in which Marta Gálvez reveals different scenes from the beautiful process of transformation experienced by the flower that shares its name. In the body of an elegant dancing lady, the artist invites us to travel from the twilight of dusk—when the blooming begins—through all the stages surrounding this phenomenon: maturation, pollination, and the emergence of the fruits that will tint the night’s opacity with red.
In deep connection with her inner self, her femininity, and the memories that transform the performer into the very flower we witness that night, the accompanying artists take form within scenes built upon the diverse languages of Spanish dance—from the pursuit of beauty through the stylistic exploration of the escuela bolera to the play of structures found in the most flamenco-inspired passages. All of it guides us toward the closing of the flower, a cyclical metaphor for a new beginning.
Performance included in the Women in Flamenco, Flamenco, and New Creators subscription series.
