Taking as her starting point an imagined encounter with the essence of the female intellectuals and artists who formed part of Las Sinsombrero, Mercedes de Córdoba creates an intimate space where two worlds meet: hers, and theirs. Driven by an intense need to extract them from the darkness, repression, and silence to which they were subjected, her intention is to rescue those female writers, artists, and thinkers of the Generación del 27 from the suffocating oblivion to which they were condemned. They broke down the conventions of their day but were silenced and forgotten by history. Thus, on stage, the artist fosters an environment where they can simply be, where they can exist, and where they can shout out to the world the importance of their struggle.

Using countless metaphors, symbols and a visual/corporeal language full of irony, the choreographer and bailaora will travel with her female company to a world where time stands still and reason fades away. The lack of answers when it comes to memory, the impossibility of being understood, lies, repression, torture, and death are the pillars that underpin a very specific aim: to invite us to rediscover these women.

"A cult. An obligation, a resounding cry of admiration, condolences to the executioners and a hug to the victims, to their legacy, to their soul, body and mind. To what they were, are, and will be...

Have you ever been so profoundly affected by a story of injustice that you have felt all the fear, anxiety, anger, and even the scars it causes in your own body? That’s how I felt about this story: it hurt as if it was my own. As if I had been inside each one of them. Being a woman and an artist, I think that’s not so strange. Perhaps many of us carry it in our DNA. That is why I summon you. I celebrate you. I elevate you. You, them, the women of '27... With or without hats to bear witness to what must not happen”.
