Intermediae
Mic is the display created by artist Álvaro Matxinbarrena for the collective Debajo del Sombrero.  Beginning in October Mic will be in the Intermediae warehouse space.  Its purpose is to connect the public with the work done by the collective.
Tall, so it's really visible, and, at the same time, mobile and agile, like a wheelbarrow, Mic is perfectly suited to fulfill its functions.  It has a video screen and a drawer with printed information inside, to be taken.  To take, it's got a little drawer where paper and pencil are put at the visitor's disposal if he/she should like to make a suggestion, a stand for writing said suggestion, and a mailbox to put it in. Mic has been built inside the warehouse space using waste material, à la mode of the artists from Sombrero who Álvaro Matxinbarrena knows well since he's a frequent participating collaborator in its programs.  He's taught workshops several times as a guest artist, and he's shared his house and studio in Elgorriaga, Navarre, for a week with a group of six participants in the summer intensive course organized by Sombrero.   Another collaborator who is very close to Debajo del Sombrero is artist Teresa Isasi, cinematographer.  The beginning, the first workshops in the fall of 2007, when Intermediae had just opened its doors and the rest of Matadero was mostly a jumble of empty warehouse spaces, was photographed by Teresa, who has never stopped taking pictures of the collective thoughout all of its existence.
On the occasion of its opening, Mic will be offering on screen a tour of the history of Debajo del Sombrero, its first five years, through Teresa Isasi's photographs.
