Instagram, TikTok, Facebook... Social media has turned everyone into a 'model' within their own virtual reality. We all know our 'good side' or the angle that flatters us most. But long before we each carried our own mobile phones, the art of the pose had already firmly taken hold among the stars of music and film during the 1990s. Photographer Jesús Ugalde turns his gaze toward that decade—marked by artifice long before the digital revolution—in this exhibition, which features 21 portraits of the most prominent personalities in film and music from that era.
The first photoshoot for La Oreja de Van Gogh, the recording sessions for the legendary album Sin documentos by Los Rodríguez, or an iconic moment on the set of Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios; these are all captured by the photographer in this exhibition. His collaborations with labels such as Sony, Universal, and Warner granted him privileged access to some of the most influential musicians of the time, including Alejandro Sanz, Rosana, Manolo Tena, Ketama, and Ariel Roth. All of them appear in this exhibition, which also includes two large-format, previously unpublished portraits: Martirio without her signature sunglasses, and Carlos Berlanga, cross-dressing as Gala, Dalí’s muse.
Ultimately, a journey through the time and music of a remarkably unspontaneous decade.
