Matadero Madrid center for contemporary creation
OPENING NIGHT SUMMER IN PLAZA MATADERO
Grosgoroth + Fabuloso Combo Espectro + Do it your set
Institution
Concerts by Grosgoroth and Fabuloso Combo Espectro and the party with multiple Djs Do It Your Set with Grupal Crew Collective and La Cia Milagros open this year's Summer in Plaza Matadero programme.
Grosgoroth Grosman was one of the members of Grabba Grabba Tape, a band which, alongside many of its contemporaries such as The Cheese, Ensaladilla Rusa and Campamento Ñec Ñec, set out to break free from the hackneyed pattern of chorus-verse-chorus. Grosgoroth is one of those artists who truly march to the beat of their own drum. He has a Game Boy, a load of electronic equipment, Fugazi versions and masterful melodies. Fabuloso Combo Espectro
This outfit has one of the best reputations on Madrid’s underground scene. They play a post-dance punk music of the sort performed by James Chance & The Contorsions, which became known as NO WAVE music in late 1970s New York. I’m not sure they wanted to be a cult band, but they have become one.
Do It Your Set 3
For the third year running, Madrid will host the Do It Your Set party, which features multiple DJs who will all play music, dance and liven up the dance floor. It’s a session with no hierarchical structure that experiments with new ways to party. At Do It Your Set you don’t need to be familiar with specific techniques or have expert DJ skills to make people dance; you just need to sign up at http://doityourset.wordpress.com.
