Anything that moves like that, or, “a BODY […] a betrayal. Selling yourself to the enemy. […] ‘Body’ is the name of the imposed limits. […] This body is always the body of others. […] A body that escapes from its language, I dare suspect...” (Fran Ribera).
Anything That Moves Like That in EL CUADRILÁTERO, SISMO's new offering that tries to make manifest the relationship between the stage and the audience where space is in charge: an empty industrial warehouse and a quadrilateral sort of boxing ring measuring 10 by 12 meters surrounded by the audience. A box within a box. El Cuadrílátero intends to embrace the possibility of the exhibition of unfinished work, the urgent nature of the relationship between the creator and the viewing public in order to avoid the production system geared strictly toward the final presentation; El Cuadrilátero gives the artist a very specific space for him or her to play with, and hopes to be able to include in creation the side discourse related to the stage that often is left out of the creation of a piece. In EL CUADRILÁTERO other pieces like Observen como el cansancio derrota el pensamiento, by Conde de Torrefiel, Acción inaugural, by Coreógrafos #2, and Radicales libres, by La Tristura can also be seen. Paz Rojo (Madrid, 1974), '00 Bachelor of Dance- Choreography, School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam (SNDO-de Theaterschool, Amsterdam School of the Arts). Since 2000 she has choreographed pieces such as “It’s My Ass You’ve Been Thinking About” (2000-2009); “This Body Doesn’t Have A Title Yet” (2002-2003); “Basic Dance” with choregrapher Cristian Duarte (2004-2007); “After Talk” with Ricardo Santana and dr. Kurogo (2008-2010); WE THINK, WE LIKE THAT, Festival of Contemporary Dance, Sao Paulo, Brasil (2010) and “Anything That Moves Like That”, a solo piece commissioned by LEGO/EXFESTIVAL, LA PORTA Barcelona, 2011; and “WE ARE GERRYING”, Impulstanz Festival 2011.
Rojo is currently a facilitator and coordinator with the art creation outfit “COREÓGRAFXS”. She teaches the course “Choreography: A problem to Practice” at different institutions, universities and artistic creation centers (Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam, Vienna y Moscow). She is also a founding member, producer and facilitator for the collective outfit ‘A piece...together?’ along with the Brazilian choreographer Cristian Duarte.
