BAC Madrid #0 will bring together the honoured artists (one per continent) and the six curators who have chosen them, in four performative encounters and two dialogues. Two of these encounters can be seen in Naves Matadero.

3 OCTOBER

Performative encounter between Narcissister (USA) and Ashley Ferro-Murray (USA)

The son of Moroccan and African American parents, Narcissister is a performance artist who explores issues of race, gender and sexuality through humour, pop songs, sophisticated costumes, dance and his characteristic masks with which he ensures anonymity. Narcissister will give a multimedia performance art piece produced especially for BAC Madrid and then talk to Ashley Ferro-Murray, curator of EMPAC - the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center of New York.

4 OCTOBER
Performative encounter between Nora Chipaumire (Zimbabwe) and Jay Pather (South Africa)

Of Vampires and whitesaviourfatigue is the name chosen by Nora Chipaumire, from Zimbabwe, and by South African curator Jay Pather, to serve as the title of an encounter that has been specially created for BAC Madrid. It will be presented as follow: “The black African body and its motionless image, moving, motionless, functioning, reproduced and sold at fairs for five hundred years: an intoxicating and dizzying field for asking questions. Decolonisation, of course, a stabbing, a grip, releasing, a stabbing, a grip, releasing the saviour mentality. What do we think? Of the media and the body? Blackness never goes that far, before the marauders who have been there and who have been, and return and define.

ACTIVITY PART OF BAC MADRID #0. BIENNIAL OF THE ARTS OF THE BODY, IMAGE AND MOVEMENT

Naves Matadero - International Living Arts Centre is home to a considerable part of the BAC Madrid #0 programme, a new exhibition, production and training project featuring the arts of movement, the body and image. BAC Madrid #0 is collaborating with FIVER (Spain’s International Platform and Festival of Support, Exhibition and Production of Audiovisual Dance and Technology) in programming a series of actions prior to and complementary to the biennial, comprising projections, exhibitions, workshops and professional meetings that will take place during the months of September and October.
