A spectacular new performance by the Biuro Podrózy Theatre Company based on the books of Stanislaw Lem (Solaris, The Futurological Congress) for reflecting on new technologies and the decline of humankind. Funny and penetrating.
Planet Lem is a spectacular new production by Poland’s famous Biuro Podrózy Theatre. Based on the books of Stanislaw Lem, author of works of science fiction such as Solaris and The Futurological Congress, the play is a funny and penetrating diagnosis of contemporary life that invites reflection on the relations between the development of new technologies and the decline of the human race.
The play takes place in the world of the future, where artificial intelligence keeps the human race in check with visions of illusory wealth, leading to degeneration and apathetic passivity. The world is inhabited by humanoid figures whose meaning of life is shaped by hallucinogenic substances under the watchful eye of the cyber-transporters, who live day by day with the illusion of peace and well-being…
The show has been produced with impressive design, special lighting effects and multimedia projections. The music, composed especially for this production, uses symphonic sounds representing the post-industrial world.
The project is part of the International Cultural Programme of the Polish EU Presidency 2011. Text author: Script based on the novels of Stanislaw Lem
