POPlatch Bingo! hosted by Marian Garrido is a mashup-based dancing bingo. How many times at a party have we wondered about the name of a song that sounds so familiar? How many times have we got it right? This event is based on the potlatch feasts at which hosts would regale their guests with gifts, with an immediatist twist rooted in the philosophy of Hakim Bey, in which the event becomes a performative act where a celebration is understood in relation to a game.
POPtlatch Bingo!, selected at the open call for Summer in Plaza Matadero 2015, offers participants the chance to experience commercial music in an interactive event with a subversive approach that aims to turn pop music upside down and inside out. The aim is to use hybrid songs, mashups and bootlegs consisting of several hits at the same time to create a bingo game in which instead of calling out numbers we will pull out commercially successful pop stars (for example, Pitbull might be the wild number) until the card is complete and a prize can be awarded.
