Enthusiam for keeping the music scene in Madrid growing is on the rise, and the Academy contines to create new ways to do it. October 3-6 will see Madrid Red Bull Music Academy Weekender arrive. This new format fits under the umbrella of the Academy, who curates its programming. The project reinforces its commitment to Madrid after the 2011 edition held at Matadero Madrid, its legacy in the shape of Nave de Música and two editions of RBMA Bass Camp.
Among the confirmed artists are the legendary Chris & Cosey, industrial music pioneers, both former members of Throbbing Gristle and the creators of albums with a cult following put out by the Rough Trade label in the 80s; Derrick Carter, a key figure in early 90s Chicago house music and the founder of the Classic record label; Fuck Buttons, the kings of electronic psychedelia coming in from Bristol with a new album under their arm, Slow Focus; Omar Souleyman, the Syrian folk star with more than five hundred albums to his name; The Haxan Cloak, the British multi-instrumentalist and one of the flagship artists of Tri Angle and the man responsible for one of the best experimental electronic albums of the year, Excavation, where he explores electronic music serrated with drone textures. On the Spanish national scene, we've got Fasenuova, the heirs to cold wave sound and whose live performances have been described as 'abrasive', with Joe Crepúsculo, one of the most particular and creative artists in the country, who's got six albums under his belt; and bRUNA, one of the most special performances at Sónar 2013.
The festival is made up of conceptual events built around a group of artists or musical styles, where different generations of various genres are atomized over different spaces: iconic spots around the city, museums, auditoriums, and clubs.
Red Bull Music Academy is back in the form of a festival, with this 'Weekender', once again filling the capital city with musical activity for four intense days.
