A festival dedicated to classic computer technology and video games, highlighting the role that video games have in our culture, including a program full of activities, from concerts and tournaments to workshops on video console and computer repair
RetroMadrid is a festival dedicated to classic computer technology and video games.  Since 1995 the Asociación de Usuarios de Informática clásica (AUIC) [Users of Classic Computer Technology Association] has put it together every year.  In 2013 it will again be held at Nave 16 at Matadero Madrid.   In 2012 the festival- at the same location as this year- surpassed expectations, being visited by more than five thousand people, proving that "retro computer technology" is becoming a new emerging cultural phenomenon.   In its 2013 edition, held from March 8 to 10, RetroMadrid highlights the role that video games have in our culture.  A program full of activities, from concerts and video game tournaments to workshops on video console and computer repair, has been designed.   For the opening, RetroMadrid has arranged a concert that, since it will take place March 8, pays homage to women in the field of computer technology.  Next, we will be reminded of our beloved Game Boy with a performance by "Super Busty Samurai Monkey", an innovative duet that lends vocals to "chiptunes".  Afterwards, we will be enjoy the stylings of the group "Crisis Alma", whose guitar riff melodies pay much deserved homage to the Konami video games released for the MSX system.   This year the fair will include the exhibition “MadriSX, 30th Anniversary of the MSX Standard”, where we'll have the chance to see first-hand what was the first attempt at standardizing the IT jungle that existed in 1983.  As if that weren't enough, we'll also have at our fingertips a space full of classic video consoles, with an exhibition arranged by the association ASUPIVA to be included, as well as the presence of experts in the field who will show us the major developments that are still going on in this world.  We'll also have the opportunity to reminisce about all the hours spent in video arcades at the AUMAP zone, which will feature several exhibitors that will show you how to make your own mini-arcade.  Along with them there will be exhibitions of all kinds, from the classic Spectrum to the colorful Amstrad, not to mention the Commodore Amiga and 64.  We'll even seen innovations for the Dragón system, a computer that ended up becoming Spanish.   At RetroMadrid 2013 you'll have the chance to meet many "pixel artisans", individuals who patiently create real gems based on our favorite video game characters.   As far as conferences and roundtables go, we have an incredible lineup.  We have the honor of being visited by master Andrés Samudio, one-time director of "Aventuras AD", a legendary company in the field of video adventure.  Andrés will be presenting his novelization of the video game "La Aventura Original" [The Original Adventure], which is this year's "leitmotiv" at RetroMadrid.  Also from this field, we will feature CAAD, a group dedicated to computer adventures.  We'll be able to attend fascinating roundtable events led by the best retro-developers right now, and let's not forget to mention the presence of "Locomalito", who will tell us about his adventures and misadventures with the game "Maldita Castilla" [Damned Castille], which is causing quite a sensation in the "indie" world with its "retro" aesthetic.  There will also be conferences led by experts in many different fields.   And, finally, there will be a new edition of the Premio RetroMadrid, this year awarded to the video game "La Abadía del Crimen" [Crime Abbey].   RetroMadrid is the perfect excuse to come out, have a good time, and show your family that there was a time when touch screens and palettes featuring millions of colors did not exist...  We'll be expecting you!
