RETROSPECTIVE DEDICATED TO CHOREOGRAPHER DAMIEN JALET

The body as a territory of conflict, dance as a hidden language, and music as a catalyst for trance. The work of Damien Jalet—an internationally renowned Franco-Belgian choreographer—moves along that boundary where movement transforms into spell, resistance, or ecstasy. His work, consistently collaborative, flows with equal ease through cinema, music, fashion, and the performing arts, leaving its mark on films as distinct as Suspiria (2018)—where choreography served as the secret language of witches, capable even of killing—and Emilia Pérez (2024), where dance becomes a tool of resistance and a liberating weapon.

Organized by Cineteca and Centro Danza Matadero, this series offers a unique journey through his audiovisual universe. It includes the documentary DuEls (2020), a choreographic journey through the Vigeland Museum that turns sculpture into living flesh, and a selection of music videos for artists such as Thom Yorke (Anima, directed alongside Paul Thomas Anderson), Elton John and Brandi Carlile (Swing for the Fences, directed by Xavier Dolan), Madonna (Confessions II, with the Torso collective), Gener8ion and Yung Lean (Storm, directed by Romain Gavras), and Björk (Surrender). A mosaic of intensity and risk that confirms Jalet as one of the most fascinating choreographers of the present day.
