Márcia is a single mother with two children; she works as a chef and shares a house on the outskirts of Lisbon with her sister, Ivete - a hairdresser in a shopping centre. One day, Cláudia, her daughter, who is studying to be a nurse and works as a cashier at a supermarket, tells her mother that she has fallen in love with a married man who is also older than her. When Márcia meets him, she realises that a serious threat is hanging over her family. Joca, the son, is a small-time neighbourhood dealer, who decides to take down his drugs supplier, but he's caught and his aunt, Ivete, will have to sacrifice herself in order save him.
