Sara Brito is founder of the Chico-Trópico festival and group, pioneering in Spain the contemporary Latin American underground. She is also a dj, a shaker and a cultural journalist.
This session of La Plaza en Verano 2017, Sara Brito/ Chico-Trópico will dedicate the first festival-happening to one of capitalist societies' love strongholds: romantic songs, banners of western sentimentalism and hetero-patriarchy, and emotional glue for all of us: bolero, bachata, merengue, romantic songs, abandonment songs will be altered by a group or artists. Their sense of humor, distortion, punk and fi spirit, will take love songs to a higher level of de-construction. A collective exorcism that will tear up hearts and question ironically one of our culture's biggest institutions. This concept tiny-festival includes a karaoke, a photo-call, rose petals, personalized cushions, nasty love postcards… Anything to bring love to Matadero.
Programme for Romalce: Un festivalín-happening de canción romántica mal (a nasty romantic songs tiny festival-happening) Clara te canta (Clara sings to you) makes songs about life. Clara is punk, dance and tacky fun with a guitar, a laptop and a sweet voice. You will happily sing along to this nonsense feast. Clara will offer a special edition of Romalce.
Ninios Presiosos (beautiful kidz) is a duet from Barcelona that twists love songs to extremes. A romantic and lysergic cacophony in the times of Internet, born in Soundcloud and conceived to make broken hearts seasick.
Los Celos (jealousy) is the all times pyromaniac orchestra. They would burn anything outside love between you and them. They will play at the town fest and leave only ashes behind them. Todo por CELOS (All for jealousy). (A collaboration for Romalce by Sabina Urraca + Nacho García and Elías Fraguas (from Elías e Ignacio).
Érror Ramazzotti. (mistake Ramazzotti) One half of Chico-Trópico (Pedro Buschi) and the Colombian musician Julián Mayorga will hold their second edition of tropical distortion punk under the Érror Ramazzotti lable. The Érror will aim at bachata and merengue for Romalce, two genres with a tacky sweet flavor that will reinvent and turn broken hearts and underdeveloped hips upside down.
Sonidero Romalce (Grita –Caballito + Sara –Chico Trópico). Intervened love songs, underground classics from the depths of romantic waste. And an oportunity for the audience to write messages and love or miss-love dedications for the djs to shout them over the cheesiest songs and earworms in the universe.
Karaoke Romalce. Tonadas del desgarro, (songs for the torn) include classic romantic song hits for the beloved audience to slit their veins live, just as the romantic love decaloge advises them to. A swan's song to love's breakdown.
