The Seed Exchange Bank is an initiative aimed at decentralizing seed control and questioning the management models we generate or take part in within culture and everyday life. Its mission is not conservation, but the exchange of the seeds themselves and, with them, the accumulated knowledge surrounding them: recovering, producing, and sharing seeds adapted to local growing conditions. The Seed Exchange Bank and its associated activities are aimed at anyone who works or wishes to work with seeds, whether directly or as a metaphor for the need for transformation in our society.
The Seed Exchange Bank also proposes an initiative for food sovereignty and a critical review of the exploitation of proprietary seeds—genetically modified for higher yields across any climate and situation. These are single-season, patented seeds whose rights are reserved for the corporations that designed them. Since 2007, Intermediae has worked in the fields of permaculture, ecology, and sustainability, programming regular activities in the Avant Garden urban garden located at the entrance of Matadero, alongside other initiatives focused on ecological activism and participation, such as The Green Thumb Club (El Club de los Dedos Verdes), Urban Fruit Action (Acción Fruta Urbana), and Semillando.
In 2026, the exchange sessions will be coordinated by the Asociación Ecosecha.
