SEMINAR - WHOLODANCE PROJECT

Its goal is to develop cutting-edge technologies for learning and creation in dance and to preserve Europe’s cultural heritage (flamenco, classical, and contemporary dance or Greek dances) using sophisticated motion capture techniques. It is also aimed at choreographic creation using technologies that make it possible to generate, recombine, assemble, and record movements through an interactive repository of dance sequences. The objective of WhoLoDancE is to create a digital environment that provides educators, dance students and choreographers the opportunity to create and work in a network.
The Stocos Institute, based in Madrid, is the Spanish partner that organises this workshop, in conjunction with the other partners that make up the project: Lynkeus (Italy), Athena Research and Innovation Center in Information, Communication & Knowlegde Technologies (Greece), Motek Entertainment (Holland), Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Universita Degli Studi di Genova (Italy), Coventry University (United Kingdom), K Danse (France), Peachnnote BMBH (Germany), Lykeion ton Hellinidon (Lyceum Club of Greek Women, Greece).   ABOUT Instituto Stocos
Instituto Stocos is a project that focuses on the analysis, research and development of the interaction between body gesture, music and interactive visual imagery, transferring concepts and abstractions taken from scientific disciplines into performative contexts.
Athena RC 
Katerina El Raheb-Giorgos Tsampounaris- Athena Research and Innovation Center (Greece). The mission of Athena RC is to conduct outstanding research in Informatics and Computational Sciences and to ensure this research has an impact on society, especially regarding local needs. The vision of Athena RC is to serve the full spectrum of the research lifecycle, starting from basic and applied research, continuing on to system & product building and infrastructure service provision, and ending with technology transfer and entrepreneurship. 

InfoMus
CasaPaganini / InfoMus carries out scientific and technological research, development of multimedia systems, multimodal human-computer interfaces, and applications. The main research focus of the centre is on the understanding and development of computational models of non-verbal expressive and social behavior. Cross-fertilization of scientific, humanistic, and artistic theories characterize the research methodology.  CasaPaganini / InfoMus collaborate on an international basis with companies, artists and research organizations, and is primarily funded by international research councils and the European Union.

Politecnico di Milano 
Ranked among the top 50 universities in the world (QS ranking) in all areas of science and technology, the Politecnico di Milano (www.polimi.it) is the largest technical university in Italy and Europe. The Image and Sound Processing Group (ISPG) of PoliMI has a long-standing experience in the areas of multimedia signal processing, with special emphasis on audio, acoustic, image and motion analysis and processing. 
K. Danse 
Dance Company involved in numerous creative projects mixing contemporary dance and digital arts. The choreographic approach of K. Danse develops a contemporary movement language by the dialectic confrontation between the physical body (lived, experienced) and the visual body (seen, virtual). The performances question the borders between fiction and reality, the social construction of the body, and the psychological structures in human relationships. K. Danse develops work in four main areas of activity: performance making, mediation, art-science research, and organization of events.
LYNKEUS
Lynkeus is an independent strategy consultancy specialised in the conception and management of EU-funded projects, with a specific expertise on eHealth, data analytics, data privacy and security. Founded in 2000, it works to identify and promote the best cutting-edge technological solutions to complex socio-economic issues, ranging from innovative applications in the field of eHealth and precision medicine to the adoption of blockchain and smart contract technologies for a number of use case scenarios. Within WhoLoDancE, Lynkeus plays the role of project coordinator, and is responsible for science communication and dissemination activities, as well as exploitation and IPR management.
MOTEK
Motek Entertainment innovates 3D animation and performance capture by developing digital assets, content, formats, custom pipelines and solutions to technical and creative challenges. It excels in real-time interactive environments, immersive experiences, mapping and digital holography. Motek is one of the pioneers in the field of motion capture, with a history of new production technologies and integration of techniques from the world of research, medicine and robotics into affordable, broadcast-ready solutions. The role of Motek in WhoLoDancE involves the creation of the motion capture repository, the development of a standalone dance-related movement blending engine, and the implementation of holographic volumetric display technologies.

COVUNI: The Centre for Dance Research (C-DaRE) at Coventry University, UK, is one of Europe’s leading Research Centers for dance. Our research is rooted in the creation, analysis and publication of diverse dance practices, in analogue and digital form. Our researchers collaborate on an international basis with artists and research organizations, and our research is funded by national and international research councils, trusts and the European Union.
Lykeion ton Hellinidon
Amalia Markatzi, Lykeion ton Hellinidon (Lyceum Club of Greek Women)
The Lykeion ton Hellinidon (Lyceum Club of Greek Women) was founded in 1911 by Callirrhoe Siganou-Parren, a pioneer of the feminist movement in Greece. It is a volunteer organization, which, in the 100 years of its existence, has played an active and important role in the preservation and presentation of Greek cultural traditions, music, dances, costumes, and customs.
