Sorolla, which comes to Matadero’s Naves del Español in Sala 1 on June the 12th, is a show inspired by the collection “Vision of Spain”, that the painter Joaquín Sorolla created for the New York Hispanic Society in 1911.
Sorolla will show us, via taking a trip around various geographic locations of our peninsula, the most significant folklore dances alongside other creations concerned with classical Spanish dance, bolero and flamenco.
As a result, regions, provinces and cities, such as Aragon, Navarre, Gizpuzcoa, Seville, Galicia, Catalonia, Valencia, Extremadura, Elche and Ayamonte, will be represented through choreography designed and created by Arantxa Carmona, Miguel Fuente, Manuel Liñan and Antonio Najarro.
The light, freshness and movement contained within Sorolla’s paintings will be reflected in Franco Dragone and his team’s set design as well as through Nicolas Vaudelet’s adaptation of costume design and the Valencian Juan José´s musical score.
In the words of, Antonio Najarro, the director, Sorolla is a new challenge born out of the desire to combine two arts into a singular universal show: the greatness of Spanish dance and the work of a great painter, celebrating the 150th Anniversary of Sorolla’s birth as well as the 35th anniversary of the BNE.
