French artist and performer Adelin Schweitzer, a key figure in contemporary art linked to immersive technologies, arrives at L.E.V. Matadero 2025 with The Sutherland Test, one of his most acclaimed works to date. This performance breaks away from conventional Extended Reality (XR) formats to explore uncharted territory, where "seeing less" can mean "perceiving more."

At the heart of this unsettling installation is the BUD, a custom-designed helmet that suppresses vision. Through a carefully structured sensory deprivation protocol, participants are guided into an altered state of perception, freed from the dominance of the visual. The session is presented as a mysterious technological demonstration, led by the enigmatic collective VESM, whose work questions the contemporary cult of the image and the overload of digital stimuli.

This piece unfolds as a liminal, discomforting, and revealing experience—where speculative storytelling merges with technological critique in a performance that destabilizes the viewer from within.

With over twenty works showcased at international platforms such as Ars Electronica, SAT Montréal, ARCO Madrid, and the Chroniques Biennale, Adelin Schweitzer has established himself as one of the most incisive voices in the XR landscape. His artistic practice, developed in collaboration with the Marseille-based studio les laboratoires deletere, subverts the promises of technological innovation to craft genuine manuals of self-defense for surviving a hyper-technologized world.
