A man has left and there have been no news of him. Amarillo, Texas is the destination he never reached. A distant woman reconstructs his body, his identity, his likely route and her imagined discourse for the missing man. In recovering these traces and tracks, the possible topography and landscapes of his journey are made visible. This is a search that reveals not only the geographic tracks and the paper trail of this man, but also the emotional mark of his absence. This man and this woman have many faces, hundreds of thousands of identities that together make up the face of a people in continual exodus. It is a slowly vanishing face. Amarillo is a remote town, but it is also the intense color and the extreme rigor of the desert sun.
This piece explores notions of cultural identity, the relationshisp that exists between reality and virtual reality, between what can proven and what is fictional. It is a woven process that makes the leap from installation to theater, from improv with objects to landscape creation, weaving motifs and the show's visual narrative. At the same time, a voice comes across like a river of sounds, as a mark of identity in an aural landscape created by the mise en scène. The different languages spoken by the media used here, and the physical presence of the actors and objects are the vehicles that take us on this journey to Amarillo. Teatro Línea de Sombra is a cultural project created in Monterrey but based in Mexico City since 1994. It is a non-profit theater project recognized as a civil association in 1999 and made up of theater artists, pedagogues, researchers and actors. The group works with musicians, set designers, visual artists and other collaborators from like-minded backgrounds. It currently has its base in the Coyoacán area, where the research center focuses on art, research and pedagogy. Their work deals primarily with the exploration of contemporary theater work and the mechanisms necessary to bring about exchange and collaboration with other experiences in stage arts at a national and international level. This project is interested in finding alternative methods made possible by the unique frontier space between theater arts and the plastic arts, music, video and the possible relationships between what we call theater and the different stage disciplines. The group has also directed their research efforts towards the study of theater workings and art creation using new dramaturgy and stage writing, and encompassing transdisciplinary work and incorporating other work from different schools of study.
