The Espace Aygo collective explores the fringes of rigid systems, intertwining art and design, reality and fiction, while questioning how these "supermodels" divide rather than unite. The installation Unboxing by the Belgian collective—presented at Matadero Madrid as part of the Mayrit Biennial 2026 (Super)Models, curated by Eduarda Neves and Mohammad Salemy—challenges the industrial production chain as one of these supermodels: a system that structures matter, time, and labour into repeatable sequences, reducing organic variety to measurable, standardised units.
This exhibition project presents disorder as an inevitable outcome of the system rather than an anomaly. Crafted from wood in collaboration with the company FINSA, the series of sculptures that articulate the space invites visitors to navigate a landscape of organic and standardised forms unfolding along a conveyor belt system. With this installation, Espace Aygo questions our reliance on rigid models—whether industrial, technological, or computational—exposing how they trigger their own collapse when pushing the boundaries of control.
