Throughout the 90s several factors led to the rise of an interesting and unusual panorama within the visual arts in Mexico, one focused on experimentation and dialogue. The economic crash of 1994, combined with a total lack of interest on behalf of cultural institutions there, created an ideal breeding ground for new strategies for creating art and artistic discourse. Twenty years later, the exhibition spaces and possibilities have changed and the contexts have been altered by the unfolding of events over the course of time.  The questions concerning Mexico's economy and social structures remain the same, but they've been intensified by a new crisis: unimaginable violence.  This situation, new but foretold, is reflected in Mexico's artistic concerns.

The nine artists represented here one-by-one- Edgardo Aragón, Daniel Solano Cremance, Marcela Armas, Óscar Cueto, José Jiménez, José Antonio Vega Macotela, Idaid Rodríguez, Fritzia Irizar- are part of the Young Artists Archive started by Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil of Mexico City.  On each of the screens making up the video series, curated by Ruth Estévez, different videos from each artist are displayed in order to establish a panorama as ample as possible of the artists' careers. While it is not anyone's intention to make any generalisations from them, their projects, nonetheless, display several themes that test the possibility of common statements being gathered from the work a new generation of Mexican artists.

The video series ends with the discussion “Other playing fields”, led by Ruth Estévez, dealing with the spaces and projects carried out in Mexico City in recent years as well as a brief description of the ideas and subject matter most important to the newest generations of artists.
