VA Wölfl studied painting with Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg, photography at the Folkwangschule in Essen and he has been a member of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin since 2007. Without a doubt, VA Wölfl is one of the most contemporary creators that exist today, as can be seen in the sets that he generates from classical dance. His works combine the languages of the visual arts, dance, theatre, music and photography, blurring the dividing line between them and provoking and stimulating the viewer's perception.
In “von mit nach t: No 2”, VA Wölfl combines things that do not normally sit well with one another: the military with dance or angels’ wings with violent sounds. And when the white cube (which is how the art world refers to an exhibition space) is lit up with a monochromatic light, in accordance with Le Corbusier’s keyboards of colours, and the actors form imperfect groups of suggestive tableaux vivants; when they burn the microphones, the dancers pass themselves off as astrophysicists or ghosts, it plummets to the ground accompanied by a deafening noise… that is when the spectator experiments a unique aesthetic exploration. And that is something well worth experiencing.
