WEIRD FUTURES
Weird Futures presents examples of fiction, video essays, documentaries, and nonfiction works that explore problematic representations of the present and the future, encompassing strategies of prediction and control, as well as scenarios that feel vaguely familiar yet subtly unsettling.
In a context marked by the erosion of narratives of stability and progress—brought about by growing uncertainty and the deliberate exploitation of volatility—this series of films and videos uses speculation, irony, and the absurd to amplify the strangeness of dominant technological imaginaries, while simultaneously emphasizing the implicit violence and the drive for control that define them.
This program, curated by Bani Brusadin and artist-researcher Solveig Qu Suess, is part of the LAB 4 Weird Futures initiative at Medialab Matadero (September – December 2025).
