Centro Danza Matadero
Centro Danza Matadero – CDM is the welcoming home of dance in Madrid. The vitality of this organic, open, diverse, inclusive and cross-disciplinary cultural project stems from the city’s deep-rooted traditions in Spanish dance, and from the universality that serves as its core inspiration.
With a dialectic that harmoniously combines the I and the We, the centre and the periphery, the neighbourhood and the world, Centro Danza Matadero – CDM interacts with its surroundings and draws nourishment from its cultural heritage and innovations, proactively responding to all aesthetic trends and languages.
Centro Danza Matadero – CDM seeks to contribute to the fusion of Madrid and Dance in the same cultural sphere. It strives for Matadero Madrid to be identified with Dance, linking its cultural activities with the choreutic centres and involving the citizenry in its development, both as a creative asset and as a subject of creation.
At the heart of our uniqueness and universal potential lies a Madridness that all of us at Centro Danza Matadero – CDM wish to transform into ethical and aesthetic values. We aim to do this by bringing together a municipal cultural policy, a history, a setting, a space, and a convergent and syncretic artistic vision and programme. Dance at Matadero Madrid fosters creators who, on one hand, pay heed to professionals dedicated to the noble and necessary task of creating beauty and meaning, and, on the other, consider the needs of the diverse groups that make up our society.
