Carlos Monleón
La Consueta del Siluro (The Catfish Score)
La Consueta del Siluro is a choral work that gives voice, from a contemporary vantage point, to territorial conflicts of the past and hydrological challenges of the future involving bodies of water such as reservoirs, rivers, and aquifers. The figure of the genius loci—the mythological custodian of bodies of water—is updated to reflect the anthropogenic footprint, embodied here by an ‘invasive species’. The sensory worlds of this chimerical catfish unfold within an installation in which we can traverse inundated valleys and listen, from the silt, to the human and more-than-human voices of submerged villages and ecosystems.
