Clara Sánchez Sala
The project Now, When Her Skin Seems Even More Naked explores the connection between the iconography of Saint Lucy, make-up and the idea of the mystical. For most people, make-up is something superficial, but in fact it is a cultural artefact that facilitates transformation.
The figure of Saint Lucy, the patron saint of sight, is used here to establish a parallel between truth and make-up. The project imitates classical silk painting techniques, but using uses cosmetics. Silk is a translucent material that does not allow us to see objects clearly, illustrating the concept of veiling or covering. In this way the artist creates an analogy with the idea of make-up as a mechanism that, on the one hand, conceals the true features of the wearer and, on the other, reveals how she wants the world to see her. The use of silk will endow the paintings with a translucent aura reminiscent of stained glass windows in a church.
