The [Agrostation] sets out to generate New Urban Realities in the city of Madrid using a citizens laboratory for creation and experimentation in ecological systems to reformulate sustainable practices for saving energy and resources. It consists of a mobile covered space that houses self-building open source energy and resource-saving systems so that they might be used, tested, and developed by citizens. This site will allow for different agents and urban communities to act as a source of creation, to experiment with innovative ideas using mechanisms for co-creation, and to test different solutions developed in real situations.
Once the workshops for the initial stage of construction at the Agrostation were completed in April and May, formalizing the mobile wooden structure, the water collection, filtering, and cleaning systems and the energy production, storage, and visualization systems, the next building stage continues, executing the plans made for the systems outlined for the Agrostation's use outdoors.
Afterwards a management design process will begin for its transfer to public spaces throughout the city for its use.
[Agrostation] Building Workshops> STAGE 2. Remodeling the Agrostation for its use in outdoor public space.
Geared especially towards people interested in sustainable self-building and the environment: designers, self-builders, DIY aficionados, architects, professionals, citizens, etc. Each workshop will take place within the Intermediae warehouse spaces and will be given free of charge, but require users to sign up. 20 spaces available
Sign-up through June 17: Sign-up sheet
Workshop Program
June 18-26, Monday-Friday, 10am-8pm.
These building events will include different parts that overlap and are organized in accordance with those participating.
Presentation of second stage of construction of the Agrostation
June 18 at 4pm.
Rainwater collection Micro-workshop
The waterproof ventilated cover system will be executed, providing support for rainwater collection, which will complement the water filtering and cleaning system implemented in the previous stage.
Team: Pezestudio + Konvertible
Ecological exterior wood treatment Micro-workshop.
The pre-built wooden structure will be treated with different components, such as oils and resins, to protect it against ultraviolet rays and so that it may coexist with microorganisms.
Presentation of treatment techniques by RedVerde > Thursday, June 20 at 10am
Team: Pezestudio + RedVerde
Micro-workshop: Systems using natural fabrics for shaded spaces.
Elements woven in different natural materials will be installed to generate open, shaded spaces around the Agrostation. Plans include producing fixed elements for the cover that might create a small ventilated chamber, rolled elements on the south-facing façades, and a folding shade element in the space between modules.
Team: Pezestudio + Antonio Gandano - Maestro Chocero
Micro-workshop: Installation and testing for Agroappliances for outdoor use.
The Agroapplianes that will be integrated in the Agrostation were built in previous stages and consist of the following: the closed water system with worm farms and bio-planter, the energy production system with “Bike Seat” and aerogenerator, the “Solar Parasite Oven” and the “'Botijo' Refrigerator”, built with, respectively, the Mazetas (Sevilla), Obsoletos (Madrid), and TaerSolar (Vitoria) teams. We now have the chance to familiarize ourselves with each system and install it for use in the outdoor space.
Team: Pezestudio
Agronautas [Agronauts] is an open, multidisciplinary project that reformulates the relationships between people and the natural environment. New Urban Realities is a new phase for Agronautas. It consists of the generation of creative tools that formalize and transmit to the collective imagination true situations and practices in urban surroundings, reformulated in terms of sustainability and commons. These circumstances are made possible using innovative, self-building, open source, ecological domestic equipment.
