This year there is an important update: we are holding the festival outdoors for the first time, in the Plaza Matadero. We think it's an important change that will guarantee more comfort and better surroundings, for an unforgettable experience for everyone.

During this weekend you can enjoy yourself, and forget the daily issues we're continually being bombarded with. We want the Black is Back weekend to be a meeting point for everyone - from 0 to 100 years of age. Adults and children will have the chance to enjoy culture and music without age limits, in a comfortable environment, with great sound and affordable prices. This year, we will again have the invaluable collaboration of our friends from Costello Río, who will be in charge of providing the best soul food around.

Historically, soul has always been the soundtrack of demands for equal rights; for the struggle against racism, and celebration of integration. The decade of the sixties was a time of struggle for civil rights, marked by leaders such as Martin Luther King. This was when soul music acquired its value as a symbol within society. Now in the twenty first century, we want to claim music as culture that contributes to the strengthening of identities; supporting diversity and stimulating citizen participation, values that are essential for promoting democratic societies. Music, and particularly soul music, has historically been the backbone of many different cultures, as well as being a generator of optimism in times of difficulty.

Come along and enjoy yourself.
