Capítulo Uno (Chapter One) is Matadero Madrid’s international literature festival. In October 2021 and every two years thereafter, it will bring together a selection of the best contemporary international literature in its myriad forms: the spoken and written word; poetry, narrative, fiction and non-fiction, speculative fabulations, documentary accounts and critical writing, with the aim of challenging established canons and uncovering new practices.
In the run-up to the in-person edition of the festival, Capítulo Uno presents a series of online literary conversations. In this chat, the guest of honour is the Angolan writer and musician Kalaf Epalanga, interviewed by journalist and curator Tania Adam. Epalanga is a member of the Buraka Son Sistema group and his second novel, 'Whites Can Dance Too' was published in Spanish just a few months ago by Temas de Hoy. This conversation will centre on such issues as racism, music, diaspora and migration.
