FOCUS ON DIRECTOR JUAN CAVESTANY

Madrid, Interior / Exterior

This program brings together five works by Juan Cavestany which, when viewed as a whole, trace more than a decade of experimentation around the city, intimacy, and ways of narrating everyday life. El señor and its variations — shot with minimal means, oblique humor, and radical creative freedom — dismantle the codes of the urban portrait and push observation into uncertain territory, where the absurd blends with the fragility of daily life.

That initial gesture finds an unexpected echo in Madrid, Int. and Madrid, Ext. The former, filmed during the months of lockdown, composes a mosaic of interiors that captures a city at a standstill, frozen in a strange time suspended between fear, waiting, and an unexpected sense of community. The latter shifts the gaze outward to create a contemporary urban symphony, exploring a Madrid that relearns how to walk, speak, and breathe, marked by the traces of confinement.

Taken together, the program offers a journey through the city’s different scales, from the individual to the urban network. The screenings will be accompanied by talks and meetings with the director.
