JOSÉ LUIS GUERIN RETROSPECTIVE
To mark the release of Historias del buen valle, we present a retrospective dedicated to José Luis Guerin, one of the most distinctive and committed filmmakers in contemporary European cinema. Since the 1980s, his work has explored the boundary between documentary and fiction, the workings of memory, patient observation, and the poetry of everyday life. His cinema engages in dialogue with the history of the medium, from silent film to digital formats, while also drawing on literature, painting, and the tradition of the visual essay. Films such as Innisfree, Tren de sombras, En construcción, and En la ciudad de Sylvia reveal a practice grounded in time, attention, and trust in the image. In Guerin’s work, the curiosity of the traveler, the attentive listening of the documentarian, and the precision of a creator always in search of the right image come together.
