José Pedro Carrión stars in La Amante Inglesa in the Naves del Español. The piece, directed and adapted by Natalia Menéndez, will be performed for the first time the 8th of February in the Naves del Español, in Matadero Madrid. The cast is completed with José Luis Torrijo and Gloria Muñoz.
Writer Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) based this work on the chronicles of Jean-Marc Théolleyre in which the journalist tells us how a woman killed her husband and dismembered him. The crime referred to in La Amante Inglesa occured in the Essonne region, in Savigny-sur-Orge, in the neighborhood known as “The Cobblestone Mountain” in December 1949. The couple were called Rabilloux. He was a retired career military man. She never had a steady job. They had two daughters. Mrs. Rabilloux murdered her husband: one night, while he was reading the paper, she smashed his skull with a so-called “mason's” hammer, used for chopping firewood. Once she'd commited the crime, over the next few nights, Amélie Rabilloux cut the body up. Afterwards, under the cover of night, she threw the pieces in the freight trains passing through a nearby viaduct in the Cobblestone Mountain, one piece per train each night. Immediately the police discovered that these trains that ran across France has something in common: they all passed right under that viaduct in Savigny-sur-Orge. Amélie Railloux admitted it upon her arrest. The Le Monde chronicler said that Amélie Rabilloux was repeatedly asked about why she had commited this crime, but that she couldn't give any reason.
Duras transformed this chronicle, changing the characters, first in the novel, La amante inglesa, and then in a play, El teatro de la amante inglesa [The Theatre of the English Lover], though she also penned a previous play where this topic is dealt with just as it was in the chronicle.
This play, set in 1966 and which premiered in Paris in 1967 at the Teatro Gémier of Paris featuring Madeleine Renaud, Claude Dauphin and Michaël Lonsdale; under the direction of Claude Régy.
