Nor are they aware of their prominence in the image or of the impact that their appearance imprints on that fleeting moment captured by the eye of the photographer. They know nothing of the plasticity and the play of scales and perspectives that their mere presence brings to the scene. Is it we who build our cities and monuments with the help of the latest technology and the most sophisticated materials, or, in the light of the results, are we not, perhaps, little more than insignificant beings eager to achieve a greatness that will subsequently contrast, and quite dramatically so, with our minuscule nature?
