The Collective LUDDOTEK (Rafael Sánchez-Mateos Paniagua, Jordi Carmona Hurtado, Susana Velasco + friends) continues their video-installation (opened the 17th of June) with three channels presenting the following films: Dialéctica de René y Marc (René and Marc's Dialectic), Álbum infantil (A Child's Album) and La dictadura colectiva de una organización secreta (The Collective Dictatorship of a Secret Organisation).
These films share thoughts about a childhood for the world, they make us in some way have a reachable childhood again, because we're children again. And, like children, we don't know what we are, we're not ready for what will happen to us, just like we can't foresee what's going to happen to us. Our tragic condition, made manifest by the Situationists in 1952, still weighs us down: "We live like lost children, our adventures incomplete." There comes a time, however, when the only decision that is fitting is to put an end to regret. Maybe the problem was that we wanted to grow up too quickly, with plans that were all too clear and were supposed to go so well, in perfect and beautiful causal chains, to bring us as soon as possible to something else: the humanity of mankind, a maturity reached via an emancipation that is equal parts ethics and intellect. But that emancipation provokes a war and the destruction of experiences... and maybe now is not the best time to consider an emancipation of childhood, but rather an emancipation that is also childish, that can't count without using "the foul-mouthed terms of that age", scarcely articulated.
The films set out to carefully determine what it is exactly that children do and then propose a strength that can only be thought of as childish. All of this follows the order prescribed by the art of video or cinema, part of the crudity of that age. This invention has been said to be "futureless", but a futureless invention is an invention that has staying power and the ability to make us see what's happening around us. Thus our childhood becomes a machine built to cast a critical light on the current cultural situation, creating dissent with further discourse, and selecting ways to access the world. Then in the ensuing cries of emancipation and in its practice, what is childish isn't a burden, but rather a strength to be combined with others, a true weapon.
Thursday, June 30 at 7:30pm there will be an additional screening of the film Dialéctica de René y Marc (75 min.), immediately followed by a discussion and colloquium with the collective Colectivo Luddotek to talk about their discourse.
