Through various games involving light, we will explore our physical and perceptual limits: Where does the boundary between ourselves and our environment end?
In this workshop with María Ortega we address the notion of how light modifies the boundaries between space and our bodies, asking the following questions: Where does the boundary between ourselves and our environment end? How does light change how spaces are perceived? How do we see ourselves in different environments? Through various games involving light, we will explore our physical and perceptual limits. We will begin the workshop by investigating how we are influenced by different lighting and spaces, before moving onto a fun exploration of Darya von Berner’s installation (SELFI). Finally, we will transfer these ideas to our own bodies.
María Ortega Estepa (Cordoba, 1983) works in various mediums: painting, drawing, sculpture, intervention... producing pieces that are strongly tied to the social environment. She holds an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and currently works as a visual artist.  She is also a licensed Art Therapist, a qualification she received from the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville. Since 2012 she has given training courses on Art and Social Intervention at various universities in Andalusia, and she works as an Art Therapist at the Niños con Amor association for adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities in Seville. In 2011–12 she gave various Art Therapy workshops at Sevilla I Penitentiary Centre, in the Minors Unit and the Drug Addict Rehabilitation Unit. In her work as a visual artist she uses art as a tool for social transformation, working in areas of political conflict (Western Sahara refugee camps) and hospitals (artistic interventions in hospitals) as well as within the field of education.
