La Nube, at Casa del Lector, the center created by Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation in Madrid, is the scene of the family workshop called Lectores de pantalla [Screen Readers], the digital and visual literacy program created by the Foundation's International Center for Children's Books (CILIJ).
This workshop, led by Teresa Corchete and Sara Iglesias, leader and expert, respectively, of programs for Families and Toddlers at the Foundation's CILIJ in Salamanca, will be held in the months of April, May, and June 2013. It is intended for parents and children in their third year of pre-school, or in kindergarten.
The Lectores de Pantalla program was created in 2005 by CILIJ and revolves around readings both in print and in digital format that includes everyone, beginning with toddlers, and uses several specific activities aimed at naturally incorporating the use of new technology in daily practice in activities with children who haven't yet learned to read. Its contents define it as both a digital literacy (initial contact with the use of compiuter applications and elementary digital reading) and a visual literacy program (instruction in interpreting images and their narrative function in books). It is designed for families and children and its goal is to encourage reading on paper and on screen beginning when the child is a toddler. Electronic devices are shown as another alternative for reading and as an accesory used to reinforce learning at home. The workshop and its aims are structured around an engaging character (the superhero Leo+) who will need the participants' help to overcome a series of obstacles or trials (missions and problems), encouraging the development of skills associated with the use of digital devices. The practices with these platforms are complemented by several activities combining play, motor skills, and children's literature. Using a fundamentally playful methodology, based on group exploration and guided individual practice, concepts related to the use of digital devices are related to books for children. This family workshop is part of the programs involving reading that the Foundation offers families and professionals, which are the results of the experience and the cutting-edge innovative resources developed by the reading programs of the Foundation's Centers in Salamanca (CILIJ) and in Peñaranda de Bracamonte (CDS).
